A Clean Glissando

I noticed an abandoned shiny metal paper binder clip resting flat across the carpet runner on the fourth step. Its two silver wire loops were folded back, forming a natural miniature handlebar. I approached with steady paces and tested the grip with both palms. Finding it unyielding, I nudged the smooth black steel body across the polished oak toward the banister side. It slid cleanly without catching. I placed my right foot directly onto the flat clip casing, kept my torso upright, and pushed off the wooden riser behind me with my left heel. The metal skimmed across the grain in a swift, silent glide before halting at the outer brass edge.
