A Little Roll

I nudged a wooden thread spool with the soft pads of my toes, watching it wobble across the smooth floorboards. Dropping down onto my hands and knees, I followed its slow wobble, pausing whenever it slowed to inspect its carved grooves. With a steady push from both plush palms, I sent it rolling again until it bumped gently against the edge of the woven basket. I let out a quiet, rhythmic chitter, sat back on my heels, and carefully tipped the spool upright so it stood firm on its end.
