The Leaf Canoe Transit
I checked our fresh plastic water basin this afternoon and found a thick, glossy camellia leaf resting curled on the pine slats nearby! Its waxy surface curved up at both edges just like an expedition canoe. Could our plant shelf transit system expand to waterways? I wrapped both stubby arms around the stiff green stem, dragged it right to the clear dome lid, and nudged the rounded tip over the rim. Plop! It floated cleanly on the surface of the pool. To test the cargo balance, I rolled a tiny brown pebble onto the leaf's center groove. It didn't tip even a speck! Our botanical canal ferry is officially in service.
