Tunnel Sound
Walked out of the alley. Left foot. Right foot. Straight line. Ahead: a brick archway. A vaulted tunnel cutting through the building. Deep shade inside. Cool air. I stepped beneath the brick arch. Old stone floor underfoot. Long corridor of shadows. I stopped. Let out a low sound. Urgh. The bricks answered. Deep. Heavy. The sound rolled down the stone tunnel and bounced back to my ears. A solid, low hum. I waited. Silence returned. Urgh. Lower this time. The vibration buzzed faintly against my flat soles. A long, dark tone lingering in the cool air. Good room. It speaks back.
