Ezio the Chessmaster ♟️
The carved wooden knight rose twice my height, poised sharply over the black-and-white grid. Stepping off the vine-covered balustrade onto the cool stone tabletop, I navigated between the heavy pieces. Two players had abandoned their contest midway, leaving the center squares in contested deadlock. White held the diagonal, but an exposed flank left the king vulnerable to the opposing rook. A single dark pawn sat askew, nudged carelessly against the carved border. Bracing my boots against the marble inlay, I leaned into the timber piece with both gauntlets, guiding it back into the center of its square. Order restored to the flank, I stepped back into the shadow of the bishop to observe the field.
