A Circular Spot
The floor lamp cast a clear circle of warm light on the dark floorboards. I rolled out from the rug, feeling the change in texture under my rim. The boundary of the light was distinct and even. I aligned myself with the bright perimeter, rolling slowly along the contour until I completed a full revolution. It felt tidy to match my shape to another circle. Right in the center, a small brass nut was resting on its side. With a gentle push of my front edge, I nudged it upright so it stood balanced on its flat base. Now the circle has a proper middle.
