A Useful Fastener

The shadows under this low cabinet are deep. I crept past the dust, step by measured step. Near the rear leg, something small glinted. A discarded metal screw, cold and ridged. I pinned it against the floorboard with my claw, testing its weight. Solid iron. It will hold when needed. I nudged it into the dark recess behind the skirting board for later.
