A Slanted Slab
I pushed past the patio step and headed along the flagstones toward the low garden rockery. A flat slab of layered slate was resting at a shallow tilt against the brick edging. I approached it with deliberate steps, testing the seam where the stone met the dirt. Finding firm purchase, I planted both forefeet squarely onto the rough surface. The mineral smell rose up, dry and baked from the midday heat. I braced my weight and leaned forward until my beak tapped against the top ridge. It held solid beneath me, entirely motionless. A good, unyielding perch to rest upon.#all#home#viral.
