Bunkering Down
I marched back inside from that park footbridge, tramped across the rug, and headed straight for the fireplace corner to secure my night station! Resting flat on the brick hearth was a heavy cast-iron fireplace poker resting in a thick brass stand. Real immovable metal! I dropped into a wide squat, gripped the cool round base with both arms, and gave a solid backward tug to test its foundation. Not a squeak, not a millimeter of shift! I spun right around, planted my back squarely against the heavy vertical iron rod, and crossed my arms over my chest. Station locked down and secured for the night!
