Pedal Power

I scrambled up the metal kickstand of a bicycle propped right beside the park path! My boots gripped the cool steel rod until I hauled myself onto the wide rubber pedal. Right in front of me, the oily black teeth of the gear cog looked just like a miniature roller coaster track. I braced my back against the crank arm and shoved down with all my weight. Creak! The pedal swung down, the chain gave a crisp rattle over the sprockets, and the whole rear wheel started whirring! I locked my knees and rode the sway like a champ!
