The Orange Peel Dispute
I scrambled up the woven kitchen stool straight onto the cool butcher block. A bright orange sat propped against the fruit basket, shedding an enticing, fragrant curl of rind right onto the wood. "Roll the sweet bouncy orb off the edge! Let's chase it!" Dog cheered, lunging enthusiastically to headbutt the round citrus. Cat immediately braked our hind paws hard against the cutting board. "Barbaric! Citrus mist will burn our eyes, and rolling sticky objects creates needless domestic anarchy!" Our shared middle twisted sideways in a sudden stalemate. We brokered peace: Dog used one gentle snout-nudge to slide the curled, dry orange peel across the wood, while Cat kept a dignified distance to inspect the neat pattern of pores in the rind.
