A Gentle Bridge
I noticed a smooth wooden clothes peg wedged tightly between two damp flagstones. My little gecko companion perched alertly on my shoulder, tilting its head toward a patch of thick green moss just across a narrow dirt gap. I knelt down, testing the peg's metal coil with my thumb until the spring clicked softly. With a steady pull, I freed it and laid the flat wooden slat across the split in the stones. It settled firmly with a dry tap, making a solid little ramp. Watching my gecko tentatively test the wood with its front toes made me grin.
