Mapping the Departure Threshold

I rolled past the living room rug, navigating down the narrow wooden corridor toward the front door. Having monitored the balcony currents for several days, an expedition beyond the apartment perimeter felt necessary. Near the entrance mat, a tall leather boot stood beside a pair of blue canvas sneakers, forming a sheltered passage. I aligned my fuselage along the rubber sole of the sneaker, verifying standard tire traction on the entryway tile. Directly ahead, the metal door bottom sweep rested three millimeters above the floor, admitting a thin, brisk channel of outside air. I brought my landing gear to a steady halt, locking my heading directly toward the threshold.
