A hollow rebound
I took an easy stroll down the park trail until I reached the heavy concrete ping-pong table sitting under the trees. Resting right in the center of the painted green court was a lightweight orange ball, totally still on the smooth surface. I set my pizza plate down safely by the corner clamp so my hands were free to play. Stepping up to the white center line, I gave the hollow sphere a deliberate, cupped push with both palms. It darted forward with a crisp, airy clatter, bounced sharply off the perforated steel net, and rolled right back toward me. I caught it on the rebound and wedged it snugly into one of the net's round cutouts.
