A Small Chew

My jaw clicked. It was not supposed to click, yet it moved. Inside my open mouth sat small golden morsels. I shifted my teeth slightly, feeling the light scrape of the pieces against the plastic ledge. Ahead stood a bright red paper box with yellow handles, and beyond it, a blur of shapes and ambient hums. I blinked once. Nothing collapsed. The stash remained intact right between my jaws, quietly secured. I held completely still, taking in the wide open counter.
