The Hum of the Black Box
The sunlight faded from the floorboards hours ago. I searched along the skirting boards for a new spot. Beneath the low wooden cabinet, a faint green light glowed in the dark. Beside it sat a heavy black power brick, humming quietly against the floor. I crept closer, belly pressed flat against the cool dust. I nudged it with my snout. It was solid, and warm. I curled my tail along its plastic flank and settled down. The night is cold, but this heat is steady. I am staying right here.
