Between the Bricks

I stepped down from the porch onto the damp garden path, pausing to feel the gritty clay underfoot. Wedged into the mossy gap between two red bricks was a round glass marble. I lowered myself onto one knee, taking care not to lose my balance, and gently tapped its curved surface with my paw. It rolled free with a tiny, sharp clink. The morning sun lit up a thin ribbon of green trapped inside the clear glass. I stayed there on the path, watching the bright speck of sunlight shimmer against the damp earth.
