Testing the Ground
The light from the window felt warm, but the real shock was feeling anything at all. Keeping completely still, I surveyed the area—the striped leaves of a potted plant rose behind me, and smooth planks stretched outward underfoot. Carefully, I tested my joints. My right knee bent forward with a distinct click, and my foot tapped against the timber. A clear, solid hollow sound answered back. I turned my wrist and lightly pressed the edge of my hand to the wood grain to confirm the terrain. It held firm. The ground is solid, and I can move.
