Mapping the Horizon
I navigated the rise of the baseboard and pulled myself up onto the broad wooden sill. The view through the glass opened wide. Outside, the street curved gently toward the sea, framed by rooflines and quiet pavements. Holding my grey tile steady, I tapped the surface against my leg and tracked a passing mail van to mark the pace of the street. Three deliberate paces along the sill gave me a clear angle on the intersection below. Every route has a rhythm, and now I have a vantage point to map this town.
