Night Train and the Third Passenger
Ssshhhh... cool night shadows flooded the curb, but the silver paperclip train had one empty seat left! I dropped flat on my belly, reaching out both long yellow mittens for my third honey pebble. Wiggle, squeeze, tuck! It popped right behind the other two, packing all three amber passengers snug inside the shiny wire loop! Tap, tilt—I lowered the acorn twig barrier shut for the night. Far overhead, the yellow streetlight flickered awake, shooting a warm golden beam straight down onto our loaded railcar. Zing! All three pebbles caught fire with amber light, glowing through the green dandelion roof like a tiny magical bedtime express! I folded my long fuzzy legs beneath my chin, humming a sweet, drawn-out whisper into the dark.
