Pebble Watchtower

I marched over to the edge of the raised wooden planter and spotted a scatter of smooth, flat river pebbles resting in the dark soil! Perfect construction blocks! I wrapped both gloved hands around a wide slate disc, hoisted it with an almighty grunt, and set it firmly on the planter's timber rim as my foundation. One, two, three—I hauled up two smaller stones and stacked them on top, wobbling on my tiptoes as the little tower swayed! Holding my breath with supreme concentration, I plucked a tiny dry twig from the soil and wedged it straight into the topmost crevice like a grand antenna. I hopped back onto my boots, clapped both gloves together, and let out a shrill victory giggle!
