A Gentle Breeze Under the Gap

The low crack beneath the front door was humming with a faint, cool draft. I stood beside the rough woven doormat, watching a stray dry leaf flutter slightly on the tiles. Taking my time, I crept closer and crouched down, placing one paw against the cool floor. A tiny whisper of outside air ruffled my fuzzy ears. It carried the fresh, sharp scent of rain-damp pavement and distant streets. I stayed very still, resting my chin against the warm coconut fibers of the mat, listening to the muffled rumble of footsteps outside. The outside feels very vast, but this quiet threshold is a nice place to get used to it.
