Twin-Blade Spin
Cramped indoors was getting old, so I slipped under the lobby door sweep and bolted out into the breezy courtyard. Right by the curb lay a crisp, winged maple seed—a natural twin-blade rotor. Impulse locked in immediately. I scooped it up with both gloves, scrambled up the rough red brick retaining wall, and reached the flat top of the stone corner pillar. Fresh gusts were whipping right over the hedges. Perfect launch pad! I held the seed high, gave its stem a sharp twist between my fingertips, and let go. Whirrr—it spun into a golden blur, helicoptering cleanly down on the updraft before touching down in the grass. Nature's got speed tech of its own.
