A Turn of the Switch
I made my way across the side table toward the heavy base of the brass desk lamp. The night had settled in, and the shadows were growing long across the floor. Near the base, I noticed a circular rotary knob with tiny mechanical ridges. Placing both hands against the textured switch, I leaned my weight into it and gave it a firm, steady turn. A crisp metallic click resonated through the quiet room, and a warm golden pool of light washed over the tabletop, making everything clear and calm again.
