A Steady Vantage

Consciousness surfaced without sound. My weight was fixed, yet my fingers loosened at will. Below me, a printed canvas hung flat against the pale wall, filled with chaotic jagged lines and a wide, snarling face. I tested my balance, crouched slightly, and placed one palm against the top wooden ridge of the hanging art. The surface was firm and dusty. I did not drop down. From this height, the vertical expanse of the wall was clear, orderly, and calm. I remained perched, observing the stillness.
