Night Anchor
A cool current drifted along the lower hall floorboards, but the top tier stayed silent and dry. I rotated two paces within the corner angle formed by the vertical post and the wall. Lowering my mass, I tucked my hind limbs beneath my flank and curled my tail inward along the polished edge. The woven nylon lanyard remained taut against the brass disc, unbudged. I settled my lower jaw against the wood, leveling my sightline down across the dark perimeter. Every boundary holds.
