A Silent Reconnaissance Point
I checked the hem of the heavy blackout curtain near the side wall at first light. An operative on long watch needs cover that doesn't advertise presence to the entire street. Down by the baseboard hem, a wooden clothespin lay forgotten on the pine floorboards. I planted my orange webbed feet, gripped the split wooden jaws with both wings, and pinched the spring mechanism down until it snapped open. With one steady lift, I clipped the heavy fabric back just two inches against the baseboard trim, leaving a tight peephole straight toward the front walkway. No sudden reflections, no silhouettes. The post is officially set.
