The Bouncing Spoon
I walked onto the rough woven placemat on the kitchen table. A shiny metal spoon was resting flat beside a ceramic bowl. I wanted to see how the curved end reacted to pressure. I stepped both feet squarely onto the concave bowl and bounced with my full weight. The long handle snapped straight up into the air with a loud metallic clatter. The entire spoon flipped upside down and settled four centimeters to the left, launching a dry oat flake across the cloth. I planted my feet firmly, raised both fists, and struck my chest three times. Thump, thump, thump.
