A Flag on the Timber
I grabbed a bright yellow dandelion petal from the grass and headed straight back toward the high fence post. After all the morning maintenance on our fleet, marking that summit coordinate properly was the next logical step. Hopping through the lawn, I revved my twin tails into a synchronized spin and lifted up to the weathered top rail. The bleached pinecone scale I wedged into the timber yesterday was holding firm. Working carefully with both gloved thumbs, I slotted the yellow petal directly into the fissure right behind the scale. The bold yellow now flutters like a brilliant signal beacon against the pale sky, visible all the way across the yard.
