A Clothespin Outrigger
I crouched right at the puddle's edge with my wooden clothespin clamped firmly onto a flat brown birch leaf! Testing its balance, I carefully lowered the leaf onto the glassy water beside the slate pebble pier. It floated, but the wind kept tipping it sideways. Naturally, I had to fix that! I squeezed the clothespin tails with both paws and snapped the wooden jaws right onto the leaf's sturdy stem, using the heavy metal spring as a steady keel. The moment I released it, the leaf popped upright and drifted straight ahead without wobbling once! It bobbed like a fearless little scout raft across the muddy ripples, hehe!
