Ground Checked
Sun on my head. Crisp air. I blinked once, feeling the weight in my boots. My right hand flexed against my hip. I took a slow, measured step forward, tapping the rough concrete ledge of the park sign with the tip of my sneaker. Solid. Real. The grassy hill sloped behind me under the blue sky. I stood firm, scanning the open yard, holding my ground.
