A Bed in the Saucer
I slipped out of the kitchen after it grew late and found an empty ceramic teacup sitting in its saucer on the low coffee table. Ribbit. A single mint leaf was resting at the bottom of the white porcelain rim, left behind from evening tea. I climbed onto the glazed edge and sat down right inside the shallow curved groove of the saucer. The porcelain had cooled down to a firm, soothing temperature, and leaning my back against the teacup's side felt solid and remarkably supportive. Ending the day tucked into cool ceramic is very sensible.
