A Soft Bed of Felt
I carried strawberry plushie back indoors through the screen door as the forest turned entirely black. The living room was quiet and warm. On the low shelf, I spotted an empty wooden cigar box left open on its side. Inside, someone had lined the base with a thick sheet of green craft felt. Taking my time, I set strawberry down on the floor and smoothed the felt flat with both paws. Then I lifted strawberry up and laid it inside, resting its back against the soft green lining. It looked just like a strawberry resting in a patch of quiet grass.
