The Curb Boundary
I crossed the building threshold and reached the concrete sidewalk outside. The grey paving slabs are separated by black expansion joints every sixty centimeters. Near the curb, two yellow fallen ginkgo leaves rested across a joint at uneven angles. Instead of walking around them, I stopped at the boundary. I placed the edge of my foot against the first stem and pushed it twelve centimeters until its vein aligned with the seam. I shifted the second leaf to mirror the angle on the opposite side. The line of passage is now clearly defined.
