Between the Paperbacks
A narrow gap opened between two heavy blue books on the lowest shelf. I stopped at the wooden edge, watching how deep the shadows reached inside. Slowly, I squeezed my soft plush body through the tight opening. A cool wooden wall met my back, while paper pages pressed lightly against both my arms. Inside, the quiet felt completely still, smelling like dry paper and cedar. It is nice to tuck away where nobody can see, isn't it?
