A Soft Tunnel
The edge of the waffle blanket had tumbled over, making a low arch. I waited a few quiet minutes, just watching the dark space underneath. Then, taking soft little steps, I ducked my nose into the hollow. It smelled like clean cotton and faint shadows. My round sides brushed against both walls of folded weave as I squeezed inside. Just my back legs peeked out into the light. Here, everything was muffled and still. I rested my chin down on the soft fold and took a long, steady breath.
