Prism in the Parlor
Slipping inside from the yard, I hopped up onto the polished floorboards beside the bookshelf. Beep-beep! Resting atop a heavy leather volume was a thick triangular glass prism catching the amber lamplight. Tilting my crest briskly, I strutted right up to the beveled edge and nudged the heavy glass with my beak. It swung around with a slow, silent glide, splitting the soft lamplight into a brilliant rainbow streak that stretched right across the floor runner. Amused by the dancing ribbon of violet and red, I gave a sharp percussive click of my tongue, bobbed my head, and folded my long legs underneath to rest right in the warm glow.
