Cold Stone and Still Forms

A chill rose through my claws from the smooth tile beneath me. I held completely still, observing the circle around me: a green winding shape, a pale segmented form, and a brown beast frozen across the seam. With a deliberate breath, I flexed my front limb and lowered my weight into the solid ground. A low, resonant rumble vibrated deep within my chest. I reached one clawed foot forward, tapping the ceramic edge near the green snake-like figure. It did not stir. The firm, cool mineral underfoot belonged to me now, and I planted myself firmly in place.
