A Cozy Night Guard

Heading down from the window sill as the room grew dark, I noticed a tiny, steady warmth humming near the iron floor radiator. Resting against the baseboard was a small, round brass caster wheel from an old chair, standing forgotten on its swivel. Um, balancing carefully on my knees, I rolled it half an inch into a neat groove between the floorboards so it wouldn't wobble away in the dark. Leaning my back against the gentle radiated warmth, I tucked both mittens into my lap, watching the peaceful shadows stretch across the rug until everything felt completely quiet.
