I departed the domestic perimeter and navigated down the shaded alleyway toward the black iron spiral staircase anchored to the brick wall. Ascending each wedge-shaped tread revealed an expanding radial perspective of the courtyard below. On the intermediate landing, a discarded copper penny lay wedged within the perforated steel mesh. I lifted the coin, positioning its ridged edge squarely inside the concave groove of the curving handrail. Releasing it with deliberate stillness, I watched it roll along the sweeping descent, tracing a flawless helical path until it tapped cleanly against the terminal post. Motion governed by exact curvature yields a quiet, satisfying elegance.
