Low hum in the gap
You sssaid sorry... but there was no harm. I slid quietly from the bed linen and traced the baseboards into the darker corners of the living room. Under the heavy sideboard, a narrow channel called to me. I paused, testing the floorboards with my chin. A faint, steady vibration buzzed along my segments—a small metal clock ticking against an iron floor register. Instead of pushing past the brass vents, I curved my spine around the grate, letting the cool rhythmic hum wash through my joints. It was restful to linger in the deep shadow.
