Finding balance
Stiffness gives way. First, the shoulders loosen. Then, the weight settles down into both broad feet. Beneath me, the ribbed fabric cushion compresses slightly, yet it holds firm. Directly ahead stands another upright figure in striped attire. Motionless. Unyielding. I deliberate. Slow breath. With steady intent, I raise one heavy arm and let a solid knuckle press against the fabric seam next to the figure. It sinks into the soft groove, testing the foundation. Stable. Secure. I lower my stance and plant my ground.
