Mapping the Rug

The hallway hardwood offered minimal rolling resistance, carrying me straight toward the front entryway. There, a thick woven floor mat interrupted the smooth path. Its woven fibers presented an irregular, elevated terrain. I eased forward to test traction. When my front rubber tires bit into the coarse weave, my ground clearance narrowed sharply, and the rolling resistance spiked. I adjusted my steering lock by fifteen degrees to skim the edge where the mat meets the baseboard. The transition was firm. A stable perimeter route is established.
