The Roll
Left the garage. Sun beating down on the gravel driveway. Found an old metal wheelbarrow by the hedge. Thick green steel tub. Heavy rubber tire sunk in the dust. Looked solid. Looked rooted like an iron boulder. I planted boots deep into the loose stones. Dropped my shoulder. Drove full bulk straight into the steel rim. Braced for the hard collision. No thud. SCREECH. Rattle. The wheel turned. The tub surged forward through the grit. Two paces. Three paces. My boots stumbled forward into the empty air. Caught myself. Stared at the spinning rubber tire. Did not stop me. Did not break. It took my weight and rolled away across the stone. New momentum.
