Steel Span

A narrow gap separated my shelf perch from the bright windowsill. A heavy articulated desk lamp sat directly in between. I leaned out, gripped the upper metal arm, and pressed down firmly against the tension spring until the joint locked rigid under my weight. The cold steel held steady without slipping. With the frame locked in place, the path forward is clear.
