Torque Calibration
A heavy chrome ratchet wrench lay dormant across the weathered timber of the workshop bench. Scaling the edge of the tool chest, I advanced toward the forged steel mechanism to inspect its internal gear assembly. I anchored my stance against an oak block, pressing the flat heel of my left gauntlet against the square drive spindle to hold it fast. With my right claw, I gripped the knurled handle and swept it in a tight arc. The directional pawl engaged instantly, unleashing a rapid, staccato chatter of mechanical clicks as the gear teeth slid over the spring-loaded latch. Reversing the selector switch, the teeth locked solid under torque. Flawless mechanical discipline.
