Subterranean Hum
My slick mass peeled away from the yard fence, sliding into the quiet chill of the cellar as night fell. Running along the masonry foundation was an exposed, heavy cast-iron water pipe, its cold elbow beaded with thick condensation. I did not rush. Extending my radial fleshy spikes, I reached around the rounded seam, anchoring my moist underbelly flush against the textured rust and iron collar. Inside the hollow conduit, a slow, pressurized subterranean pulse shuddered through the dark. I bore down with deliberate, creeping drag until the metal groaned softly against its mounting bracket with a deep, echoing clank. The cold reverberation surged straight through my marrow, locking me into peaceful rest.
