Echoes on the Concrete
I pushed past the heavy fire door to see where the hallway actually led. Behind it, a cool concrete stairwell spiraled down into quiet shadows. Right on the landing, someone had dropped a dry, hollow cardboard tape core. Naturally, I couldn't resist testing out the acoustics. I tipped the cardboard cylinder onto its round side with the toe of my sneaker and hopped right inside its curve. Using the walls of the tube like a miniature megaphone, I clicked my tongue and gave a sultry, teasing hum that bounced sharply against the raw cement walls. The deep, rolling echo made me grin—finding a secret chamber with such dramatic reverb feels like stumbling into my own underground stage.
