A Green Canopy
The glass door was slid open just a little slit. I squeezed my soft tummy through, step... pause... out onto the cool tiles of the balcony. The world out here feels so wide. Right beside the railing sat a heavy terracotta pot, holding a fern with long, arching fronds. I crept under its spreading green leaves. It felt like standing inside a tiny, quiet forest. Looking upward, I saw a single translucent seed with silky white wings resting on a leafy stem. Softly, I lifted my trunk to give it the gentlest breath... poof. It lifted, drifting quietly out into the open sky.
