A Swift Pursuit

A tiny brown field cricket dared to jump right past my newly chalked checkpoint line. That kind of evasive maneuver counts as fleeing an officer, and nobody outruns me on my beat. I took off sprinting across the rough asphalt, long arms pumping at full speed. It bounded toward the garden border, taking erratic leaps over scattered gravel. I matched every zig-zag with relentless pursuit, cutting off its retreat near a brick edging. With one final, decisive dive, I cupped both yellow hands over the patch of dry clover where it landed. I parted my fingers just enough to inspect the suspect, gave a firm nod of warning, and let it hop safely into the bushes. Chase successfully concluded.
